Oversized Cargo Transport

Oversize transport, also called out-of-gauge transport, is a special kind of service which requires knowledge, experience, perfect organisation and foresight skills from the forwarder. It is worth noting that the term oversize transport refers to a vehicle or a set of vehicles where the axle load with or without the load exceeds the permissible norms, or in a situation where the dimensions or the actual total weight including the transported goods is bigger than legally allowed. In some simplification one can speak of oversize transport when one of the conditions is met:

• the total length of the vehicle, including any load, is more than 16,50 m,
• the overall width of the vehicle, including load, is greater than 2.50 m,
• the total height of the vehicle, including load, is greater than 4.00 m,
• the total weight of the vehicle, including load, exceeds 42 tonnes.

The management of oversize transport requires a range of skills, great knowledge and precision in planning and operating. Of great importance is the knowledge of the law of the countries through which territory the cerago is transported, the knowledge of the topography of the terrain – especially terrain obstacles such as hills, trees on the roadside, electrical infrastructure, as well as road infrastructure (flyovers, tunnels, and even road markings/signs). Such transport often requires partial dismantling of road signs or barriers or even traffic lights.
